Meyer Friedman and Gerald W. Freidland’s “Medicine’s 10 greatest discoveries” talks about a striving physician that revolutionized modern medicine in the article “Andreas Vesalius and Modern Human Anatomy”. Vesalius’ curiosity and interest for the human anatomy led him to stand out from any scientist and elaborate or correct most of Galen’s discoveries. He furthered his research by knowing what Galen did, and then made numerous discoveries, which made him mark science history. The main reason why Vesalius started researching the human anatomy and what got him interested were the detailed yet incomplete writings of Galen, a Greek physician of the second century. These writings were incomplete and somewhat erroneous, since Galen’s studies were mainly done upon apes and dogs. Thus, Vesalius wanted to pursue this territory that was such a mystery at the time.
