It seems that sitcoms are the backbone of American life and are the most influential aspect of television today. ... Most of the sitcoms in the past had, and still do have today, numerous similarities that bring them all closer together. Although Fresh Prince and The Nanny have many easily seen differences, they share a common bond in that each television program portrays the lead characters as moving from low class living to high class society. The Nanny and Fresh Prince are two sitcoms that have many similarities. ... Another similarity between the two sitcoms was the fact that they each had three children and were ranked in the same corresponding order where there was an oldest daughter, an only son, and a youngest daughter. ... Each father, Philip and Maxwell, had somewhat of a temper, yet Philip of Fresh Prince seemed to show his ill temperament and devilish madness in almost every episode, whereas Maxwell of The Nanny did not get as upset so easily and was a little mellower. ... One last thing that the sitcoms had in common was that the main characters, Fran and Will, had best friends which were seen throughout almost every episode at some point. ... Both friends added more comedy to the series because of their want for someone to love and care about them, yet that special person never came around for them. ... It is odd that The Nanny had a cheap car was sitting in the rich part of town in front of a nice home, yet there was never a car seen in an episode of Fresh Prince, except when they were riding in that specific car. ...
