Neither written by nor written in England, Beowulf is the oldest English epic poem. A Christian monk composed the story Beowulf in the writings of Old English around 700-750. ... A fearless warrior, Beowulf, is honor bound to aid a neighboring king, Hrothgar who is cursed by a “…savage and cruel monster…” named Grendel. ...
