As readers we are never truly able to know Danny s character Do you agree
In Pat Barker’s Border Crossing it is difficult to determine if Danny ever changed because nothing is really offered through his perspective. Tom’s point of view is explored and so are the views of other characters upon Danny but Danny never gives a first-hand account of his own experience so the readers have rely on the portrait of Danny painted by the other characters. However the Danny described by these characters and the Danny that Martha knows are in conflict because Danny also known as Ian Wilkinson never resorts to the violence that is indicated of the ten-year-old Danny. So the readers who lack true knowledge of Danny’s motivations are at a disadvantage in deciding whether Danny is capable of evil or not. So when Danny’s actions are described by the other characters in the story, the readers are placed in the tough position of finding out what Danny’s true character is through their own interpretations of the text so it’s true that it’s hard to decide what Danny’s character truly is It seems reasonable to assume Danny felt some antagonism towards Tom who betrayed him but Danny’s aggression seems much more controlled in the adult compared to the boy of ten.
