Introduction Since the beginning of this class I have become very aware of the different tools of thinking that creative people utilize. Some of these tools include observing, imaging, abstracting, and body thinking, and empathizing. Each of these tools is important in their own way. The tools can be used separately or also work very well together. Understanding and Importance of the Thinking Tools to Creative Thinking The first tool that is very important is observing. This is using all of your senses, hearing, touching, smelling, seeing, and tasting, to examine the world around you. When you observe you notice shape and texture. You need to do more than just see something, you need to use all of these senses and focus on what it is you are observing and then block out everything else, so you get the correct perception. By using more than just vision you get the best feel for what you are observing. Observing is important because so often people miss out on many things because we don’t take the time to use all of our senses. If you do not observe you are simply just seeing and you miss out on many things that are going on around you and you miss out on your surroundings. Imaging is using your mind to see symbolize objects or occasions. Most people use imaging frequently. Imaging can also be the thoughts that you have in your head. Imaging is something that we use and most of the time do not realize it. It can be imagining that you are somewhere and remembering the way it looked, felt, smelled, and the sounds that you heard. Also, imaging can be used when learning. When I do math I use imaging to help me see geometric shapes. I also use it to add numbers in my head.
