Roughly two years ago, I felt completely lost when I began studying for GRE and TOEFL tests. Since Grade Seven, I have been studying English at school – making the number of years that I have spent studying English staggering fifteen years – but my English proficiency proved strong only in grammar and writing. I never realized that I read anything in English at such a low speed before I took sample GRE and TOEFL tests. ... I was going illiterate and deaf in English. ... Back then, I believed that my English was fluent enough to help me survive in America. Nevertheless, the English coming out of real Americans was something different from the one that I listened to on tapes.
