Desiree's Baby

Desiree’s Baby This story that Kate Chopin has told here is set in a time period where slavery and racism were very common. The blacks were the slaves and the whites were living large. This story is full of mystery and satanic speech. Desiree is a child who was discovered Madame Volmonde. As the baby was young Madame Volmonde cared for it like her own child. She was in love with Desiree. Some eighteen years passed by and a young man named Armand Aubigny fell in love with Desiree. Armand himself did not know anything about his origins or much about his background. Little did he know that this hidden secret would cause a problem later in his life. The two couple later had a child. When the child came upon Desiree she noticed that there were different characteristics visible. The child obviously showed some origin of a black Negro and Desiree was very shocked. Desiree leaves her husband due to this and seeks her own family to live with. While Armand is cleaning his house he happens to find a letter that explains his origin and how his mother wrote to his father stating that Armand would never know his true origin. Kate Chopin’s use of description to enhance her story is ideal in this short story. In almost all instances she is very descriptive and used many different literary techniques.
