After learning a bit more about Islam and its attitude towards terrorism, I hope you will see how the media portrayal of all Muslims being potential terrorist is unfair and very far from the truth; and that this myth is built on a series of stereotypical caricatures. ... But I’m afraid, that is where the similarities begin to end, because, you see, Islam and terrorism are not only two very, very, VERY, different ways of living ones life, they are in fact diametrically opposed, laying at opposite ends of human existence and activity The Meaning and Purpose of Jihad But you could argue – how can you say that there is no overlap between Islam and Terrorism? ... We hear all the time about individuals who profess that it is entirely their faith in Islam for which they are fighting this Jihad or Holy War of terrorism. ... But what I can speak about are the teachings Islam – a word which itself means peace and submission – I will speak to you about Islam in the light of the teachings of the Holy Quran and the example set by the Holy Prophet of Islam – Mohammad (saw). ... And it its worth remembering the context in which these verses were revealed, this was after the Muslims had been severely persecuted in Mecca for 10 years and had borne it with the utmost patience, and then they had migrated to Medina – but the people of Mecca were so vehement in the enmity against Islam and the Muslims that they followed to attack them even in Medina. ... 3) It is clear that the gross acts of indiscriminate violence perpetrated against innocent civilian populations by some, have nothing whatsoever to do with the teachings of Islam and the true meaning of Jihad as exemplified by the Holy Prophet of Islam. The Aims of Islam So far so good, we’ve talked about the baseless accusations against Islam promulgating needless violence and bloodshed and I’ve explained to you the true meaning and means of Jihad. But what insight does Islam offer into the nature and causes of terrorism, and what indeed does it do to remedy the situation. ... At its root, it is this lack of justice, kindness and fraternity in the world today that manifests itself as terrorism. Islam is that second path of virtue and goodness. Islam too fights a war against terrorism. But it fights terrorism by creating a state of belief - a state where man believes in the existence of a creator, and an ultimate purpose of all things.
