Friendship
This is a story about two friends, a father, and a friendship through the years. At church, ever since I can remember, wherever there was Natalie, there was me, and whenever you saw me, Natalie was sure to be close by. At church, we were inseparable. Sunday School, camp, Vacation Bible School, and even during church services we were together. Almost every Sunday, after church, I would go home with her family. At her house we would play outside, play with dolls, make “movies”, play dress up with her mother’s dresses and jewelry, and do each other’s hair. We were the best of friends! We wanted to do almost everything together. There was only one problem keeping us from always being together. Natalie lived on the other side of Bloomington as me. Therefore, we did not go to the same elementary school, and our mothers did not like driving all the way across Bloomington all the time for us. I remember one Saturday afternoon we were playing outside. We went into the garage to get a new ball to play with, and she told me to follow her to her father’s car. I asked her why and she said, “Just do it!” So I did. Natalie led me over to the driver’s side and got into the car with the door still open and I just stood there watching what she was doing.
