To dream of having progress without national unity is to want moonlight without the moon. Progress for a nation is a continuous process and its unity ensures the supply of the fuel. Take unity out and progress becomes a mirage, something that we might all want but can’t have. ... As Victor Hugo wrote in “les miserables”:

Progress for a nation is a collective term, a moving forward of all its people.
Progress is achieved when a nation comes together and unites on a common goal or ideology and struggles to move in that direction. In the absence of unity even if a person or group is progressing towards some goal the other person or group may be moving in a completely different direction. Such state of affairs surely can’t lead to collective progress. This might not even lead to individual progress. ... Allan Frome said:
