Feminism

If the Equal Rights Amendment had been ratified we would have seen a more liberal society sooner. The ERA sought to give women the same equal rights and opportunities that men had. Movements such as the National Organization for Women were founded to pursue more actively women’s rights. NOW believed that it was a woman’s right as individual Americans and as human beings to enjoy the same rights and goals that men had. Woman like Gloria Steinem fought against sex-segregated job opportunities by demanding that a woman has the right to be hired for a job that traditionally a man would hold. She helped organize the National Women’s Political Caucus, an organization that encouraged woman t seek political office. Her organization joined others around the country and formed the largest women’s rights demonstration ever. If the ERA had been ratified, women would have been able to hold the same jobs as men much sooner.
