In late December 2002 John Morning, Head of Accounting Department requested a meeting with Star Insurance’s Director in regards with the result of the proposed Financial Statement that his division has calculated. He began to tell the Director about the problem he faces. The Accounting division has calculated the financial performance of Star Insurance as of this forthcoming December 2002, and he thinks the result will not be good for the company. It seems that the company is going to suffer a financial loss, even though we have achieved good sales in the particular year. History at a Glance Star Insurance was established 47 years ago, on 17th March 1955. The founders were a group of former activists of 1945 independence who determined to improve the social standard of the Indonesian people, They established an Insurance company whilst the economic activities were under the domination of foreigners and 6 months later they founded Bank of Commerce2. The two companies have now become public listed. Those founders were Idham, Soedarpo Sastrosatomo, Late Wibowo, Late Pang Lay Kim, Ali Algadri, Roestam Moenaf, Late J.R. Koesman and Late Ismet. As time passed by and business competition has become tougher and open, the company must be managed professionally; even more after it became a public company at the end of 1989. To support the operation of the company, PT Star Insurance, has over 300 employees from varied level and the following: * 11 Branch Offices all over Indonesia consisting of 3 branch offices in Jakarta namely: Jakarta Pusat (Central Jakarta), Jakarta Selatan (South Jakarta) and Jakarta Barat (West Jakarta) and other branch offices in Medan, Palembang, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Denpasar and Malang.
