Pit and Fissure Sealants I Sealants will protect the grooves and pits in your son’s teeth from trapping sugary foods. The sugar is what causes cavities. The sealant material will fill in the grooves. Since his molars have just erupted now is the best time to place the sealants for the best protection. Although the sealants will protect his teeth, he will still need to brush and floss to prevent decay on all of his teeth. Pit and Fissure Sealants II I am going to place sealants on your back teeth. The sealants will make you teeth smooth so that the sugar bugs can not stick on you teeth and cause cavities. In order for the sealant to stick I need to keep the area very dry. I am going to need you to stay still during the procedure. First I am going to brush you teeth with a special kind of toothpaste. After that is all rinsed out I will put some of these cotton rolls in your mouth to help keep the tooth dry. Then I am going to put this blue stuff on the tooth; it is going to help the sealant stick. It might not taste good and I don’t want you to swallow. I will get it all out of your mouth. Once you tooth is dry this pink stuff will make sure it is really dry and then I will place the sealant material. Now I have a special light that will make the sealant hard and keep it on your teeth.
