Ernest Hemingway created a great mystery in “The Short and Happy Life of Francis Macomber”. The story does not reveal the mystery until the end of the story, and leaves a lot of imagination to the reader. The evidence supporting the mystery can be seen from the background information for this couple. Francis Macomber and Margot is a married couple. Macomber’s cowardice can be seen in the beginning of the story when he went hunting for the lions. Their relationship is really dependent on each other. Later, when Macomber gained his courage, Margot felt threaten, and intentionally killed Macomber. In the end of the story, Margot killed her husband by accident, in order to save him from being mauled by a large buffalo.
