ARGUMENTS AGAINST THE WAR IN IRAQ To many Americans, the War in Iraq stands as a rather disagreeable subject. Many of these Americans agree with former president-elect Al Gore in the fact that, “[…] unilateral action against Saddam Hussein would ‘severely damage’ the more urgent war on terrorism and ‘weaken our ability to lead the world.’” (Kuttner, 1) The almost sudden idea to act out against Hussein and Iraq embodies President George W. ... Preemptive strike, along with issues of national funding for the war, Iraq’s lack of ties to Al-Qaeda (and other terrorist factions), and other politicians views on the United State’s involvement in Iraq present themselves as major issues against United States presence in Iraq. By definition, preemptive war is the attacking of a nation before that nation causes harm to the nation in which it is attacking. To wage a preemptive war, a nation needs to meet three main criteria. ... (Schroeder, 4) In the case of the United States and Iraq, it seems that none of the three criteria sufficiently meet the situation. In its war against Iran, Iraq may have used chemical warfare with no trace of concern from the United States.
