Battle Royale Did I ever despise reading books, any book at all for that matter. I never really did understand why I never had the patience to sit, relax and read. Every time I walked into a bookstore I would wonder how the place could still be in business. What was it about reading that people enjoyed so much? For years I had assumed it just wasn’t my thing. Well, I assumed wrong. Reading really could expand your mind and open up a whole new creative and adventurous world. Since as far back as I can remember, I disliked reading. The books we read at school were lifeless. My summer reading last year was to read a book called, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Just hearing the title convinced me not to read the book. There is no way I was going to read about a tree that grew in Brooklyn. I wasn’t even positive that that was what the book was about, but the lame title gave me no motivation whatsoever to read it. Books that had to be read in school were simply looked up on the internet. A website that is used commonly among students that has entire summaries for almost any book you will be forced to read in school. So, I simply read 20 pages of chapter summaries instead of 400 pages of dull writing.
