“Fair is Foul and Foul is Fair”
In Shakespeare’s Macbeth, the main character, Macbeth, pays for his evil deeds with his life. ... There are three forces that contribute to Macbeth’s destruction that are prominent throughout the play. Macbeth’s character flaws, the Three Weird Sisters, and Lady Macbeth all figure into the downfall of Macbeth.
One force at work to destroy Macbeth are his own character flaws. Macbeth is self-seeking, tyrannical, and cowardly. Macbeth is only out for himself and this greed is what propels him to seize the throne. ... Macbeth is also tyrannical and cruel. ... Throughout the play Macbeth becomes more and more cruel and evil. ... Ross reports to Macduff that, “Your wife and babes/ savagely slaughter’d…” Macbeth is also a coward. ... ” (II, II, 50) Macbeth becomes petrified when he sees Banquo’s ghost after he has had Banquo maliciously assassinated. Macbeth is also cowardly when it comes time for him to meet his end.
