As people, we've all invariably gone through the age where gossip first came to the forefront. There's the peer-to-peer form that most people associate with. But then there is the parent-to-parent form that most every kid can relate to… the feeling that you're some racing horse that the other parents carefully appraise with sharp knowing eyes, from which they berate or praise their own kids accordingly. This doesn't leave room for much privacy in the way of your own accomplishments and failures, as somehow someone always finds something out. There are things adults can do for you that none of your other little friends can. Since parents hold so much sway in the little community I grew up in, having them off your back and finding some other poor kid to gossip about is always something I prize. Having no lack of privacy can really make one seek it. My mom once busted in on me when I had my bedroom door closed cause she was suspicious as to why I closed the door. I wasn't doing anything, but I got so mad at her I yelled at her and since she had nothing to say, she could only back away…and never did it again.
