Feminism is a movement organized around belief of equality of the sexes in social, political and economic means. There are different realms of feminism. Liberal feminists do not want to go around obstacles instead they attempt to remove obstacles facing women. Radical feminists do not want to remove obstacles; in turn they want to change societal institutions so there are no longer obstacles women have to face. Marxist feminists have a perspective that uses economics to explain women’s oppression. Socialist feminists use class analysis and radical feminism to describe and explain women’s oppression. When I picture a feminist I see someone who is picketing and yelling at everyone who is not participating in the riot. There are many myths associated with feminism that I am guilty of believing. Myths that all feminists are angry at the world or all feminists hate men and are lesbians. I need to learn that there is nothing that is so concrete that you can say all. There are people that fit into each of these categories but not ALL feminists fit into one of these stereotypes.
