1993 DBQ English Colonies North and South

English Colonies, North and South

The New World was seen as a place of immense opportunities and great ideas. What little the North and the South colonies had in common, other than their English origins, was the hope of a better life in a better world. ... The South was composed of many wealthy landowners that lived far apart from each other- which gave them a different perspective on community life. The Chesapeake region had too few the number of women to partner up with the huge number of single men, so family life was not very evolved, in fact it was rare to see a family in the South let alone a well functioning one. ... On the contrary in the South the classes were unjustly divided, the rich had lots of fertile land while the poor were pushed in land where the soil was tougher.
