THE WAR WITH IRAQ
On Monday, March 17, 2003 the United States issued a forty eight hour ultimatum to the Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein. He had two choices leave Iraq or disarm his weapons of mass destruction. ... For months now the United Nations had been trying to get Iraq to disarm. The United Nations weapons inspectors in Iraq still had not found any weapons of mass destruction and there was belief by the United States and Britain that the weapons were being
hid. The decision was made by President Bush to declare war on Iraq, with out the support of the United Nations. ... Everyday people and celebrities spoke out about there non-support of this war. Many people felt that it was a war for unjust causes and that too many innocent civilians and children would be killed. Some felt it was an issue of oil, that the United States wanted control of Iraq so it could control the oil. Others felt that this war would bring on more terrorism, as on September 11. Last many felt a war against an already deprived and suffering nation raises questions about humanitarian principles. United States action against Iraq could lead to further destabilization of the entire Middle East region, as opined by many leading experts.
President Bush and many others felt the war was necessary to bring independence to the Iraqi people and their freedom.
