Character Analysis Jack Nicolson

Character Analysis: Jack Nicolson

After observing the actor Jack Nicolson in the movie The Shining, I was able to differentiate between facial expressions, hand and body gestures, body language, energy center, and character movement which are all of the things that make his character react. Within the character analysis you can see how he portrays a maniacal, eccentric man with multiple personalities. ... Jack and his wife were told that the hotel contained some spiritual essence and that the people who watched over the hotel before him were driven insane. His son begins to see visions of customers past and Jack becomes more and more maniacal as the movie progresses. Soon enough Jack takes a turn for the worst and essentially is driven to the edge he then begins chasing his wife around with an axe he then turns to kill his soon as well when in an odd sense they are saved by the shining.
Throughout a movie the personality of a character plays a large role in how they are portrayed in the move. Jack Nicolson conveys his characters personality from being a calm and collective working class male with a family to a crazed writer who changes his entire demeanor to a delusional psycho killer. One of the most often seen and most important character traits is that of his maniacal behavior it is defined as an offensive term meaning so uncontrolled as to appear to be affected by mania. Jack Nicoloson’s character demonstrates the maniacal personality trait graciously throughout this film. ... Eccentricity which is defined as unconventional, especially in a whimsical way is expressed when Jack begins to have visions in his head that slowly begin to convince himself and take over his way of thinking and personify him into a person who begins to listen, portray and believe in the images and words he is beginning to hear in his head. ... Jack demonstrates various different personalities throughout the family from a loving and caring husband to a crazed, maniacal and facetious writer. ... For the most part Jack Nicolson gives his character a personality that even his family is afraid of. ... Jack’s facial expression throughout the movie was most intense because he used all parts of his face focusing on the use of his smiles and the wrinkling of his forehead. ... There is also another scene in the movie when the screen goes from a snowy scene to a black screen then 2 seconds after the black screen you see a close-up of Jack’s face.
