Analysis: Schumann “Träumerei” In his piece “Träumerei” from Kinderszenen op. 15, no. 7, Robert Schumann produces a musical interpretation of dreaming. The harmony, melody, and rhythm combine to develop an ethereal and dreamy quality throughout the piece. Schumann successfully accomplishes this by setting up certain expectations for the listener, but then defying those expectations in a variety of ways. He also creates melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic ambiguities to develop a feeling of uncertainty. In short, Schumann makes the listener feel like they are suspended in the air, as if floating through a dream.
