Mr. Miers American History 2- honors 9/4/03 Analysis Through out the past year the Census Bureau report shows that the population living in poverty has increased by 1.3 million. Now the percent living in poverty is 12.4, where last year it was 12.1%. Now it is found 7 million people are living in the United States under the conditions of poverty. Last year children under the age of 5 jumped from 18.8% to 19.8%. Nevertheless, as the population changes more up to date data is needed to make more judgments. With the new data it might possibly increase the understanding of the welfare reform and other federal programs. Economists are trying to motivate people to get jobs. They are also making sure that nothing is done to weaken the welfare programs. Families in poverty including 2 children make less than $17,960 a year.
