Francis Macomber Cowardice to Bravery

In the story “ The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber” by Ernest Hemingway portrays three characters: Francis Macomber, Margaret Macomber, and Robert Wilson. Margaret Macomber’s character is someone who claims to know everything and cheats on her husband with Robert Wilson, who is an intelligent person caught in a witch’s web of deception. The story really focuses on the protagonist, Francis Macomber, who makes a dramatic change from coward to bravery.
Francis and his wife, Margaret are on a two day hunting safari expedition with Robert Wilson, the Englishman safari guide, who has the same amount of contempt for the hunter Francis as he does for Macomber’s wife, Margaret. The first day safari expedition begins when Francis tries to shoot a lion but he has failed, running away from the wounded animal because he was afraid. Robert Wilson tries to explain to Francis and Margaret that it is very normal for a hunter to run, but neither of them thinks so. ... Margaret is talking to Francis and tells him that she needs something to drink- a gimlet, which is a alcoholic drink mixed with lime juice(5).
