Acidity and Bases

pH is the measure of acidity a solution contains. pH is a chemical property of liquids that tells whether the liquid is an acid or a base. The pH values range from 0-14; 7 signifies the theoretical neutral point (for example: pure water). Values less than 7 increase in acidity, and values greater than 7 enhances in alkalinity. Everything below 7, is considered an acid. Everything above 7 is considered a base. pH = -log [H+] Hydrochloric acid (HCI), also known as muriatic acid or hydrogen chloride, is a colorless, acidic, known flammable gas. The elements that are contained in hydrochloric acid are water (60% to 67%) and hydrogen chloride (33% to 40%). Hydrochloric acid can cause severe damage, if it comes in contact with skin, eyes, or inhalation.
