Literature assignment 1) By the use of similes how does the poet compare and contrast the speaker and his family environment with that of the other children? The author had used some similes to show the contrast between his family with the poorer children. One of which is “threw words like stones”. From the simile used we can tell that the poorer children were ill mannered and had looked down upon the author. The rough children had no proper upbringing. The children were boorish and nasty too. However the writer in contrast was brought up well in a pleasant conducive environment. He was taught good manners and had a kind and nature. Another simile that the writer used was “muscles like iron” This describes that the reason why author was afraid of the other boys.
