November 18, 1993, a band from Seattle were getting ready to play their first unplugged concert. They were called “Nirvana” and consisted of Kurt Cobain on vocals and guitar, Krist Novoselic on bass, Dave Grohl on Drums and backing vocals and Pat Smear on guitar. This grunge band had previously always played with electric instruments. Playing acoustic was a new experience for them. Kurt Cobain was incredibly nervous and scared of the fact that he was going to play acoustic in front of hundreds of people. He bought a special lubricant to coat his guitar neck with to help his hand slide up and down it as he moved his fingers around. Dave Grohl used “brushes” instead of his normal wooden drumsticks to get a much quieter sound, not something that this pounding drummer would normally do, and, for the first time ever, a cello was used for the show.
