Alex Rodriguez, one of the most prolific shortstops in baseball, leaves an obviously talented Seattle Mariners team to become the highest paid player in history. Eric Lindros, a hockey superstar, didn’t even play a whole year because his team wouldn’t pay him enough money. These are just a couple examples of greedy professional athletes more focused on how many million they get paid than on how many games they win. Whatever happened to the days when pro athletes played for pride and the enjoyment of their fans and even maintained another job on the side? The truth is, the sports world itself and the pastimes it represents are being diluted by a thirst for money and opportunity for advertising. There are no pro sports games that you can attend or watch on television without seeing some sort of advertisement. Companies are pasting their logos on sports arenas all over the country. The Denver Broncos’ football stadium used to be called Mile High Stadium.
