A Short Essay On Lorne Lofsky
By Joel Williams
Lorne Lofsky is currently a Toronto based jazz guitar player. As a young guitarist he played with Oscar Peterson and many other big names in jazz. ... The main reason why Lorne is still a fairly obscure name in jazz is simply that he has a family and chooses to stay based out of Toronto. ... I knew a little about jazz (enough to get into the program), but I certainly wasnt experienced with playing
standards, walking basslines, and all the other elements that make up the jazz idiom as it relates to guitar. Lorne is really a jazz guitar player, by which I mean, he only
plays jazz. But, he is the kind of musician that can keep playing the same 50-60 year-old songs that most jazz people refer to as "standards" and discover new
approaches and fresh ways of interpretting them.
