Some major innovations in Western Europe included using horses vs. oxen. Peasants used oxen to pull their plows for hundreds of years. This took a long time because the oxen moved very slowly. Horses eat better food, but a group of oxen could plow twice as much than a group of oxen. Therefore they switched to horsepower. Farmers in the Early Middle Ages weren’t using the right kind of harness for their horses. The harness went around their neck and was practically killed being strangled. Before 900 sometime they began to use a harness that went around the horses neck. This prevented terrible accidents. The new ways of farming, and better technology increased food.
