Literacy as Real Power
Have you ever wondered why we sit down to read, write or think? Many people ask themselves this question and they don’t realize the power they possess. With that being said, Frederick Douglass, Carol Shields and Malcolm X all view literacy with having real power. ... Reading is a power to me because I can use it to satisfy my needs which may be forgetting things, to simply making me feel happy inside. I learned that being comfortable while reading a book plays a major role in distinguishing my power to reading. ... Being able to express myself through writing has also been distinguished as a power to me.
Writing is also a power to me in a way that it can express my feelings to others. ... For others, writing might be something you just do, or perform in school for a grade, but for me there is a power behind it. ... The way I think also has a power to it as my writing abilities do.
Thinking has tremendous power as I see it. ... The power of thinking has helped me through many things in my everyday life. ...
