This week’s readings were on the topic of race and ethnicity. The first reading begins explaining what race is and how it is developed. It argues that it is important to come to an understanding of how race affects all parts of life so that it will one day be possible to “…break with these habits of thought. ... The third reading discusses how Jews went from being a very separate lower class race to reaching the status of being accepted as the common white person. The bottom line in all of these readings is that through the understanding of how things are the way they are, how these things happened, and why it happened we will one day be able to break through the barriers racism and ethnicity create.
