Advantages of In-Situ Conservation
In-situ conservation is one of two different types of conservation, in-situ and ex-situ. In-situ conservation is the type of conservation in which the species being protected are kept in their own environment, kind of like an on-site conservation, rather than protected in captivity. This type of conservation can provide many advantages over the other conservation method of ex-situ conservation.
Discussed in this handout is the advantages in-situ conservation has over ex-situ conservation has in terms of:
· Coverage
· Viability
· Economic Sustainability
· Adaptation
A. Coverage
By providing in-situ conservation, more area is covered than an offsite conservation reserve.
