Sick pay
Employers normally have to pay statutory sick pay to employees who are ill and meet a series of criteria. Many of those who do not receive statutory sick pay will qualify for State sickness benefit.
Statutory sick pay
Statutory sick pay is usually the lowest amount of sick pay that you must give to an employee who becomes ill or is disabled in some way.
To qualify for statutory sick pay the employee must be:
o too ill to work because of a specific disease or disability;
o ill on a ‘qualifying day’ (a day when they would normally have worked); and
o off work for four days or more.
