Gangster films have made their mark as one of society’s most cherished type of film. From the early 1930s to the present, gangster films have captured the attention of audiences around the world. Since it’s inception, the genre has undergone several changes. However, amidst all these changes, one element has remained constant, the violence. It has acted like a thread that has held the genre together. This is not to say however, that the portrayal of this theme has not undergone any changes. The presence of violence has remained the same, the use of the subject has played different roles in different pictures.
