“Easements Help Property Owners Save On Taxes”
The article “Easements Help Property Owners Save On Taxes”, by Lynn Asinof from The Wall Street Journal on November 11, 2002 is very informative about conservative easements. Conservative easements provide property owners with significant income tax, property tax, estate tax savings, and it also preserves open spaces. A motivation about easements is “the income tax deduction”, which is equal in size to the value of the development rights that you give up.
An easement by definition is when owners of real estate give or sell easements to others and give up rights to use all or part of properties for specific purposes. The previous owners actions can impose restrictions on the rights of current owners.
