jaklfjFrom the once nail-biting tandem of the not-so-Great Scotts of the Red Sox bullpen, has emerged one Scott Williamson, former All-Star closer for the Cincinnati Reds, whom the Red Sox thought they had picked up in a mid-summer deal. What they got instead was the second coming of Ricky Trlicek. Williamson was highly unimpressive in 24 games with the Red Sox, getting whacked around to the tune of a 6.20 ERA. The only thing hit harder than Williamson at Fenway Park this past summer was the beer line whenever he was summoned from the pen. But now, boy has that changed in a big way. Over the weekend, Williamson revealed his true self to a pair of packed houses at Fenway Park, blowing away the Oakland A’s in three innings of perfect relief, earning both Red Sox wins in the ALDS, and should be ready to get the call in tonight’s deciding Game 5 if need be.
