how long will you waiver

How Long Will You Waver? This is the question Elijah asked the people of God. These were the same people whom God had delivered from slavery in Egypt; whom He had miraculously fed and watered in the desert; kicked the Canaanites out of the land; promised He would protect. These are the very people who made a covenant with God that they would not become like the other nations and they would not serve their gods and here they not knowing who is God. Elijah asks the Israelites how long they will waver between two opinions. He literally asks them how long they will hobble on two crutches. One moment you see someone leaning on the crutch for their right leg and the next moment he is leaning on it for the left. What is the first thing that comes to mind? This person is obviously faking it. To Elijah, when it came to faith in God, these people were obviously faking it. So Elijah tells them to choose one or the other. If Yahweh is God then serve Him, or if baal is god then serve him. Choose one or the other even if your choice is wrong! That is an amazing commandment isn’t it? God would rather his people choose the wrong god than sit on the fence and not really choose either. Does this sound familiar to us, though? Remember what Jesus told the Laodiceans in Revelation 3:15 about being hot or cold? He said “I wish you were either one or the other, so because you are lukewarm I will spew you out of my mouth.” Why would God rather that we be completely reprobate instead of sitting on the fence? Isn’t it at least a good thing that we are sometimes acknowledging God and worshipping together, isn’t it better that we go to church or youth group meetings hypocritically than not go at all?
