Through out the story of Beowulf we find the presence of gold, armour, feasting, and of course battle. ...
In the prologue of Beowulf were are treated to the lines,"Far fetched treasures were piled upon him, and percious gear. ... After defeating Grendel "Halfdanes son presented Beowulf with a gold as a victory gift an embroided banner. ... Even Wealtheow took part by giving Beowulf a " torque" which she wanted him to "Take delight in this torque, dear beowulf. ... As a women of her status she would present small gifts such as the torque Wealthoew presented to Beowulf as an acknowlegdement of his achievements. ... This use of armour of course is reflected in Beowulf. ... Just prior to engaging the Grendels mother Beowulf puts on a "glittering helmet that was due to be muddied on the mere bottom. ... It is the powerful message Beowulf was sending in the story that he planned to return and thats why he wore his finest helmet. ... So it is no surprise at all that some much of "Beowulf" takes place in the mead hall at Heorot. one of the first scenes in "Beowulf" after he arrives at Heorot involves a feast of welcome.
