Of Mice and Men: A Comparison and Contrast of the Novel and the Movie The novel and the movie were very similar, with few, but crucial discrepancies . There were scenes not acted out fully that totally changed the feeling and plot of the book. Although the movie was true to the theme of the novel, I didn’t get feeling of loneliness and solitude that the book gave me. Relationships between people were also slightly modified to somewhat alter the characters appearance. I will list these discrepancies in characters, their relationships, and scenes which somewhat altered the mood of certain parts and the theme of the story. The characters in the novel and the movie had many differences. George was shown to really hate Curly with a passion in the novel, but in the movie his despise of Curly was less empathized. Crooks was also less involved and undeveloped as a character, in the movie.
