His wife, and his low self-confidence dominate the reality world where Walter Mitty lives. He hates his life. He wants to be popular. Through out the story he daydreams numerous times. Once he is a commander of a Navy hydroplane another time he is a famous doctor who has to save an important figure. In his dreams, he is everything he ever wanted to be. “ ‘A brilliant performance, sir.’ ‘Thank you’ said Walter Mitty. ‘Didn’t know you were in the states, Mitty.’ Grumbled Remington. ‘Coals to Newcastle, bringing Mitford and me here for a tertiary’”(819).
