In the growing and global world, the traditional representative of culture- food changes in progress too. This changes brought about the creation of new type of food that no longer characterizes a specific region or country. Scientists would later label it as junk food. Following the development of this specific type of nutrition we will try to point out its most interesting features, pros and cons, thus creating a whole ‘picture’ of this new and rapidly developing food. Junk food ‘was born’ in the United States, in the beginning of the 20th century. The basic goal that was pursued was creating a new type of food that is delicious, nutritive and at the same time fast to consume. During time it would evolve to give us the present idea of what food exactly we consider junk food- cereals, pizza, all types of sandwiches, French fries, soda drinks, ice cream and cookies that are put under mass production. To put it simply, the people set a demand for the food that best suited their long working days and the restaurants did not hesitate to provide them with it. ... We will follow the development of this restaurant as one of the best examples for junk food production. ... Ever since McDonald’s restaurant has created numerous images of food that have become immortal. ... What we can induce from the McDonald’s example is that junk food industry was getting more and more popular and prosperous, investing huge amounts of money in commercials and image-making companies.
