Working in the pharmaceutical research industry can sometimes be challenging. ... I can think of several issues in a workplace such as mine, but one of the more common issues that arise with the different studies is that of the informed consent process. ... Even so there continue to be serious inadequacies and transgressions of this process which need to be attended to. The informed consent continues to be a liability exposure in medical research because subjects are claiming that they don’t fully understand the study because it wasn’t explained to them properly. ... Presently, we use informed consents to assure this is done.
Informed consent represents the single most important issue in the area of medical research. Informed consent exists only when there is full disclose of known relevant information and known risk presented to the patient in a manner that they can understand.
