The Raven
Edgar Allen Poe is an interesting writer; he includes things that do make sense, but contradicts things that don’t. For example, “The Raven”, is a very intense poem. The poem involves emotions and fear, but also a talking raven. The true question of the matter is, is that was there really a raven in the young scholar’s room, or was he just imagining it due to lack of sleep, loneliness and depression due to Lenore’s death, the mere fact that ravens do not talk, or is that “nevermore” the only word the bird is familiar with. ... It is uncommon for a human being to have a raven for such a pet. Therefore where would the raven learn the word “nevermore”. ... Although the fact that this young man is asking the raven questions, not knowing if “nevermore” is the only word it can speak, is preposterous.
