Sound Michael Brancho Muse Elementary 1/8/01 Sound Today, I am going to introduce my topic Sound. I will tell you what it is and what it does. I hope you learn more about Sound from my report. I’m going to share these topics with you Nature, Speed, Tones, Detection, and Sound Effects. Did you know that the loudest sound is a volcano erupting? This is true, on an Indonesian island a volcano erupted and was heard 2,200 miles away! Nature and its sounds affect all living things in the world. The sounds warn animals and people about danger in the area, such as severe storms. Animals can hear more sounds than all humans. The speed of sound travels very fast through many different things. Sound goes through air at a speed of 17,000 feet per second, but that’s not the fastest sound can travel. Sound travels through steel at 17,200 feet per second. The speed of sound can be compared to light and be beaten. Sound is actually 1 millionth the speed of light. Sound travels slower in a greater density. Cork slows down sound because of its density. Sound would travel faster through paper.
