It was about 9:30 pm on a cold, Friday December night in 2001. My mom came up to my room and told me that it was time for my friends Katie and Sean to leave. Things that night had been chaotic in my home. My parents were on the phone all evening talking frantically to people. It was making me somewhat nervous because I knew something had been going on with my Uncle Dennis the past few days, but I wasn’t sure what. Having to ask Katie and Sean to leave on a Friday night so early, I knew something bad must of happened and I was about to hear something truly awful, that just might have an effect on me for the rest of my life. At about 10:15 pm, my dad and mom called me and my little sister into their room. When I went in, my older sister was on the bed with large, puffy, bloodshot eyes, the kind people get when they cry for hours. Seeing her eyes, I felt a sense of coldness, rush all over my body. Chills raced down my neck and back as I saw my dad’s eyes swell up with tears before he said the words that I will never forget.
