Response 1 In my opinion comparison is not at all outlandish. In this global competitive world both linux and Microsoft are striving hard to maintain there existing market share and to win more market segments. Both Microsoft and Linux have there own strong points, when it comes to software development. For Example in front end application development market, Microsoft’s .Net platform is very efficient when running on Microsoft servers and Microsoft databases, while Linux is strong in terminal like settings. Currently value chain activities like product design & development, Marketing, distribution channels, and customer support are highly organized in case of Microsoft as compared to Linux. Customer support, which consists of software upgrades, Patches, Online support (Knowledge databases), technical documentation is critical value adding activity to Microsoft’s products. Vast varieties of quality products from front end application development tools like VB.Net to databases like SQL Server and stable operating systems like Advanced server(Windows 2000) and workstations, Microsoft is way ahead than Linux.
