Analysis of Soul One by Blind Melon When analyzing this song, the first thing that I notice is the song’s structure. It has five stanzas, and a couplet at the end. Ballads usually consist of four or more stanzas, with four lines in each. Indeed, this song does have four lines per stanza. Also, like in medieval ballads, this song employs the use of a chorus or refrain. This refrain is repeated to get across the main idea, or an important thought. The song alternates between a verse and the refrain, exactly three times. The last refrain, however, is used as dramatic closing line, and only half of the refrain is sung. When analyzing the content of this song, one might think it obvious that there is relatively no plot development or character detail offered.
