Dental Technician Second Class Mercedes M. Simon is most enthusiastically recommended for the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal for sustained meritorious performances of her duties while serving as the Force Dental Administrative Chief, Force Dental Office, Marine Forces Pacific, Camp H. M. Smith, Hawaii from July 2000 to July 2003. During this period Petty Officer Simon performed her duties in an exemplary and highly professional manner. Her noteworthy accomplishments include the following: During her tour at Marine Forces Pacific, Petty Officer Simon was a key technical advisor and subject matter expert on issues concerning Health Service Administration to both the Force Dental Officer and the Force Surgeon. Her depth of administrative knowledge and “can do” determined nature made her an invaluable asset to the Health Service Support Section. Working closely with the Medical Administrative Chief, she initiated and successfully cross-trained the administrative department in order to maintain functionality during periods when staff were on leave, TAD or deployed. An exemplary team player with an uncompromising attitude toward mission accomplishment, she flawlessly managed a $40,000 TAD budget and $3000 supply budget. She created a highly functional, precise spreadsheet to track fluid changes in TAD for two Navy Captains, the Command Master Chief and 2 other staff members.
